Community House Network
ABOUT US

The Noble Park Community Centre has been an integral part of the local community for the past 50 years.

In 1956, in response to community needs, the Noble Park Youth Club was formed, affiliated with the Victorian Association of Youth Clubs, and provided youth orientated activities to the local community, run by volunteers, with the expertise and direction of the V.A.Y.C.

In 1960 a building was brought through public money raised, and relocated to land donated by the Noble Park RSL Club in Mons Parade, Noble Park. This building, affectionately known and “The Old Tin Shack” was home to the Noble Park RSL Youth and Community Centre until 1976.

Noble Park Community Centre
on the first day of Spring

In 1976, after approximately 3 years of discussion with the City of Springvale, the current Centre was built in Ross Reserve, Memorial Drive, Noble Park.

Now called the Noble Park Youth & Community Centre, the centre is run by a Committee of Management and Operations Committee, a volunteer office administrator and legion of volunteers, with Council support in many areas such as administration, maintenance, policy and decision making.

In 1978, it became necessary to employ a paid Centre administrator. The City of Springvale funded a part time Co-ordinator and has since continued this subsidy.

The years 1985 to 1998 saw many important changes, developments and decisions
  • The Centre expanded its role in the community with the youth orientated focus changing to encompass the whole community.
  • Incorporation of the Centre, thus severing ties with the V.A.Y.C.
  • A name change to the Noble Park Community Centre.
1988 to 1995 saw the continued support of the City of Springvale, particularly with their visionary Neighbourhood Community Centres Network. This network of Community Centres has been a role model in its field, with innovative and effective policies that have seen the community and council working together. This partnership has continued since Local Government council amalgamations commenced in 1995 with the City of Greater Dandenong and the City of Greater Dandenong Community Centres/ Neighbourhood Houses Cluster.

Over the past decade the Centre has broken new ground in promoting and delivering adult community education services to the local community, and creating and sustaining new partnerships with local service providers, businesses, educational and government bodies.

Initiatives such as Proud to Participate and the City of Greater Dandenong’s Community Strengthening Grants programme have both recognized the Centre role and have created partnerships to implement further programmes and activities, such as our innovative community cooking/healthy lifestyle programme for young mothers.

The importance of the role the Centre plays in the community has also been recognized by our key funding bodies, and the introduction of three year funding agreements will further enable the Centre to plan more effectively and efficiently for the future.

The Centre is run by a voluntary Committee of Management which meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6.30pm.  The Committee is made up of activity groups and general community representatives.  Meetings are always open and anyone is welcome to attend.

· The Centre is proudly supported by:
  • · Adult Education in the Community
  • · City of Greater Dandenong
  • · Department of Victorian Communities
The Noble Park Community Centre has grown with the community’s needs and now has a reputation as a quality provider of activities and courses for people of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds, and excellent facilities for community organizations to access.
